National Amateur 2017: Gratitude – A Competitor's Perspective
By: Jamie Woodson #47
Gratitude is an emotion expressing appreciation for what one has – being thankful. We have much to be thankful for this week.
While Keeper #47 and I were not invited back to the sixth series, I could not be more proud of my little dog. She has given me a great deal and taught me so very much over these last 10 years. As we walked to the line in the fifth series, John Stracka yelled over his shoulder giving me great advice, "Jamie, go slow. Enjoy the walk with that wonderful old dog." And, I did. Thank you, John!
Bill and his National teammate, Baby #61, made it to the sixth, but were not invited to the seventh series. They are such a great team, those two. The field has narrowed significantly from the starting 137 and now we turn our attention to serving as gunners, cheering for the remaining competitors, and enjoying the remaining couple of days of our summer vacation.
We have much to be thankful for this week. As I watched the sunrise this morning, I had the great gift of laughing at my four-legged companion chasing squirrels around the airing yard. I felt what I feel every time I look at her – gratitude.
Wishing the remaining dog/handler teams great luck as we start the 7th series of this National Amateur.
Until next time, may the wind be with you and your flyers be friendly.
