Series 2 Commentary

Pat Burns - Elite Retrievers, Ryan Brasseaux - Native Sun Retrievers, and Contestant - John Russell who is running the youngest retriever in the 2017 NARC at just over 2.5 years young.  This years 2017 NARC is also dedicated to John and his wife - who is also qualified and running Martha Russell. Here we have a candid conversation about today's conditions and effects of Series 2 on the retriever teams.

What Does That Gunner's Committee Do All Day???

We ran into Lester Langley Gunners Committee member-while chit-chatting with Pat Burns in the Elite Retrievers tent here in the gallery of Series 2. Lester was kind enough to explain what the Gunners Committee does and their role here at the 60th Anniversary of the NARC.

First Thing Is First

Geoff Buckius and Quikk 9 year old.

First timer Geoff and his dog Quikk who qualified for the 2017 NARC in the fall of last year.  As an owner of a nine year old dog field trial dog Geoff had considered retiring Quikk just before the fall.  However, the qualification to the 2017 NARC changed all that!  Geoff explained, he felt Quikk deserved to live a lavish life at home on the couch because she had given so much to him in this game.  When Quikk qualified Geoff had a tough decision, keep her in training to prepare for the NARC or retire her.  Geoff took all the factors into consideration, utimatly arriving at the conclusion of Quikk great health, love of the game, and stamina that they would come to the 2017 NARC as first time competitors.  Geoff will be retiring Quikk at the ripe age of 9 when she completes her performance at the NARC.

We can hear thunder rumbling in the distance.  First time Handler Cameron Johnson and his dog Brees ran Series 1 as conditions begin to dwindle.

The Road To Recovery

These canine athletes are put thru rigorous activity on a daily basis.  They are exposed to many regions of the US and Canada in order to compete and stay competitive.  There are several components that make up a competitive canine athlete; The talent of the animal, the healthcare/nutrition the dog receives, good consistent training and the grounds in which the athlete trains on.  If any one of the above factors become compromised it is difficult for a canine athlete to recovery and stay competitive.

In our sport, many of the canine athletes experiences some kind of injury during their career at some point.  An injury could consist of soft tissue or some thing more significant such as virus or disease. Our friend Fred Kampo and his dog FC AFC B Bumble "Stinger" experienced a very serious health situation last year.  Here is an update on Stingers recovery and remarkable road back to qualifying for this years 2017 NARC.

Glad to see Fred and Stinger back on line together again!!!!

First Thing Is First

What a ride!!! The first trip to the line Rory Hornek and Ecko # 81 received what was deemed a No-Bird.  The birds went off with out a hitch Rory was given a number and called Ecko.  When Ecko ran thru the fall and a bit deep of the Flyer station a LIVE bird jumped up in the field.  Ecko chased the Hen Pheasant down leaping to catch the LIVE BIRD mid air.  Very exciting for Ecko and Rory.  Then once it was determined the original flyer was shot, Rory and Ecko came to the line six dogs later and this is Rory and Ecko fresh off the line from their RERUN......
